The students responded by planning a mission of their own. "They said that they really felt God calling," he continued. Kliewer is proud of his teens. "They have learned how to dream bigger than themselves," he said. "God has really blessed this group of kids." While many countries suffer from a severe lack of clean water, Kliewer said the Quest Teen Ministry will begin in Costa Rica and hopefully continue on to African villages within the next few years. "The kids felt like the mission was not location specific," he said. "The did a lot of research and Jardines De Moravia is really in need of fresh water, so they chose to go there." The Costa Rican people that Kliewer met are, he said, "the nicest, most wonderful people. "They are sweet and friendly but their day jobs are often prostitution or selling drugs," Kliewer continued. "It is a very poor area. It is not a moral right or wrong to them, it is their livelihood, it's how they support their family. He added that the purifiers cost $1,000 each and "the kids worked their tails off to be able to buy them." The students will bring four purifiers to Jardines De Moravia this year. They hope to bring eight more next year. Mission students "went all out," Kliewer said, in obtaining sponsorships for their mission trip. "We have to thank Molly Jackson from New Balance, the Coffee Loft, Detwiler's Fresh Market, Icard Merrill law firm, LPF financial group, Manasota Track Club and the docs at Florida Ear, Nose and Throat," he said. "The kids sold water bottles and bracelets, they did fundraising dinners, they mowed lawns anything they could think of," to raise the money for their travel costs, the purifiers and the equipment to install the devices. A team of 17 students and chaperones will journey June 23 to Costa Rica. They will stay and work for eight days: installing the water purifiers and teaching the community how to care for them, teaching Bible school, witnessing to the children and "being themselves being good role models," Kliewer said.
